Hi, I'm Charlene Izere. I'm a fulltime content creator with a love for video editing, aesthetics, productivity, and education. My content includes a mixture of creator behind the scenes, motherhood musings, and creator education. Stay a while, I know you'll love it here.
Happy new year, creator fam. I spent the first week of January outlining my goals for 2023 as well as reflecting on my learnings from 2022.
In 2023 we’re doing things a bit differently,
I have a habit of putting tons of pressure on myself and don’t get me wrong, I love to dream big, but at what cost?
This has often left me overanalyzing my projects, tasks, and decisions, it was very much giving analysis paralysis & self-sabotage.
This year I have 3 creator goals that I’m focusing on over the course of Q1 so in this blog post, I’m sharing them with you.
Goal #1 sustainably monetize my creator business
In August 2022 I became a fulltime Content Creator. That month I made $0, but by September, I hit my financial goals, month after month.
It took a lot of hard work, which I’m used to, but in 2023, I want more ease in my life. I want to work smarter, not harder, I want to meet my income goals without serving at a deficit of self, and I want to have sustainable income streams so I don’t burn out. I want to show my daughter what it looks like to rest.
I truly want to embrace the soft girl era, and while I’m willing to work for it, I want to enjoy the fruits of my labor. To make this a reality, I’m going to be more strategic so I know where to put my time and effort. No more, throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping it sticks, no more burning out.
Goal #2 build a community of creators on and off social platforms
Community Growth on Platforms:
In December, I posted 1 video, on 3 platforms, for 5 of my accounts, for 24 consecutive days. I’ll be sharing my experience with the email community here. But one of my biggest takeaways was clarity for my TikTok Creator Account. Y’all loved my editing tips so I’ve niched down from a generic UGC Tips account to a community of creators who want to elevate their content by way of filming and editing tips. As I’ve doubled down on content you love, the growth has been exponential.
Community Growth off Platforms:
I’ve heard a few creator educators stress the importance of prioritizing community building in a space/platform where you have more control because let’s face it, we’re all at the mercy of the algorithm goddesses on TikTok and Instagram.
If you are a UGC Creator reading this, you may be saying “but the best part about being a UGC creator is you don’t need a community” and yes, you would be kind of right, you don’t NEED a community, but if you want to grow fast and diversify your income streams, you’ll want to consider community building.
On another note, social media platforms can glitch at any moment, raise your hand if you remember when thousands of Instagram accounts were randomly losing hundreds of followers.
If you want to grow and scale your Creator Business, simply put, having a community off of social media platforms is a smart business move.
My community, The Influential Creator, began in 2022. I honestly didn’t have a plan, but I knew that I wanted to build a community so I created a couple of free resources:
In October, my friend Jessica and I hosted a free UGC Challenge. This resource garnered 128 subscribers. In full transparency, the challenge took a lot of time and effort, and in hindsight, I’m not sure if I’d do it again. The hard reality is, in this industry you’ve got to want it more than your excuses, and you have to show up for yourself. We found that this format simply wasn’t enough motivation.
I feel like I’m in a consistent state of burnout so this year I’m going to be more intentional about the resources I create with and for The Influential Creator Community.
With that being said, would you mind answering 3 questions here? I’m using your feedback to create a resource you actually want and need. Some top contenders are a CapCut Crash Course, a Product Video Editing Course, and a Transition Video Course. Let me know your thoughts here.
Whether you’ve joined this community from my social media accounts, or the email list, I just want to say thank you for hanging out with me and I’m glad you are here.
Goal #3 collab with brands on campaigns vs one-off projects
I went full-time as a Creator in August 2022, and since then I’ve worked with dozens of brands on hundreds of videos. My biggest shift in 2023 is focusing on pitching and positioning myself for campaign collaborations because the one-off videos simply won’t grow my creator business as fast and sustainably as I’d like.
In the past, I’ve shared with you that I’m not a huge of pitching, mostly because it feels like a numbers game and anything that takes me away from creating, simply isn’t my vibe.
However, I’m giving it a go. If I want to work on more campaigns vs one-off projects, I’ll need to develop relationships with brands that have the budgets, and sometimes a pitch is the best way for them to see you.
The How will fall into place, however, these are a few of the items on my to-do list.
These Creator Goals support each other so as I break down my quarterly projects, monthly milestones, weekly focus, and daily to-do’s, everything is in alignment. it’s giving smarter, not harder.
As you think through your 2023 goals, give yourself some grace, dream big, but also take into account YOUR reality, and be flexible.
